Erotic Story Writing Tips and Hints
Erotic writing helps you understand
and explore some of your sexual
desires, in a way helping you
articulate your own sexual desires,
needs, and wants. Giving you more
confidence and assertiveness in your
own sexual needs - essentially
helping you formulate and express
your almost unconscious desires.
Know What Makes You and Others
Hot
You
will also find yourself more in tune
to not just your own desire after
you begin writing erotic fiction but
others, as if you have a new kind of
power, as if you can detect sexual
arousal and desire when you walk
into a room. This is because when
you construct an erotic story you
need to map out each
characters emotions and wants.
Also, while you are creating an
erotic story you'll see yourself
having more empathy for others as
you try to put the a story together,
as if you are solving a puzzle that
will turn someone on - you'll have
to think from this other person's
view - and look back at your own
sexual experiences to find pieces
that will make this story/puzzle a
hot one.
Writing an erotic story can be
difficult for some, often because
our sexuality has been repressed and
sex itself deemed a secret act
rather than a fun and pleasurable
experience. As you write erotic
fiction you'll find yourself more
and more comfortable with sexuality in
general and more open to talking
about it with your friends or
partner.
The
sexually inexperienced can often
write the most exciting erotica
since their lack of experience gives
them an enthusiasm and a strong
curiosity. Really, there is no
limit to who is capable of writing
good erotic fiction -- you just need
to care about the characters you
create and allow them to express
themselves in all of their
idiosyncratic ways. This is the
thing that often creates the most
captivating stories, when a
story breaks down your assumptions
and you almost don't realize it -
the quiet girl who is actually
really experienced, or an older
man who gives the impression of
being a strong sexual person but is
actually sexually inexperienced. It
is the unique qualities of the
person, are they funny or witty or
clumsy or what personality trait
makes them stand out. Also, often
showing vulnerability and honesty is
what works and a lot of this can
come from your own struggles and
difficulties in relationships. We
want to see not the typical girl
with huge breasts and blonde hair
straight out of Playboy, but maybe
the smart lawyer who is stressed
because she works all the time and
has an encounter with the messenger
boy. Try to tell, through dialogue
what these characters are feeling,
what they are like, and what they
want.
There are no tricks really to
becoming good in any specific
type of writing, whether erotic
or science fiction or a novel - the
two keys are reading and writing.
Reading good fiction to develop
ideas and a style of writing and
then practicing on a regular basis.
If you are turned on by a good story
you will most likely want to write
one of your own. So start writing
and build off of it. Write letters
to your lover for instance, sharing
what you want them to do in bed or
what you love that they do - with
pen and paper you can get down more
of your thoughts many times than
having a conversation. Once you get
this stuff down on paper you will
know what it is your really trying
to say.
Erotic writing makes you tap into
your own memories as you look for
that exact moment or thing someone
did that turned you on and you want
to recreate that in a piece of
fiction. It could have been
something someone did for you to put
you over the edge sexually or a
series of things that made you want
to have sex with this person.
Often, it seems that it is a small
kind act that leads to feelings of
love or arousal - when someone
touches you sweetly but unexpectedly
on the arm or remembers something
you did or said. These small
moments build up to a kind of
desire, maybe almost to an
overwhelming state, where you
want to kiss and caress this person
and that can create a great story.
Do you remember your school days
and what part of your lover's body
put you over the edge - your
favorite part of their body? You
can have characters interact and
live our your fantasy - ending up in
bed feeling and caressing that part
that sends you over the top.
Also, there can be simple physical
things that turn you on - the way
they walk or slouch or laugh or
someone looks at you - these are the
things you want to try to add to
your stories; together these
characteristics lead to a sexiness
that will turn your readers on.
Some of these things might not
appear to be overtly sexual at first
but as they add up they become much
more - acting as a precursor to a
sexual feeling. As you begin to
write your erotic stories you can
combine these details and moments
with other ideas that you have when
you begin to picture what your
characters are saying and doing in
our stories. Here is a quick
example:
She
walked down the hall with her ass
pushed up in the air
somewhat because she was wearing
high heels, although with a tight
pair of jeans and a loose fitting
shirt. She turned to go up the
stairs just where I was headed. As
she was walking up the stairs one of
her shoes slipped off. "Oh,
sorry," she said to me with a
slight laugh since I was right
behind her. I wished I was a little
closer I thought to myself, so I
could have grabbed the shoe and
handed it to her, but she was too
quick and placed her shoe back on
with a smile and turned towards her
office.
As
you think back to your own memories
and sexual experiences you will also
become more aware of your body and
how you are turned on. When you
then incorporate these moments into
your stories they become real and
enjoyable to read because you can
tell that they are based on a life
experience or drawn from your life
experiences and not cookie cutter
stories that are written in a
template form - keep in mind there
are still some good quick reads that
are almost mocking these types of
routine stories and somewhat ironic
or exaggerated making them clever
and funny. Experimenting is always
a good thing.
However, the stories that are drawn
from your own self-discoveries have
a touch of worry, care, curiosity,
insecurity, dealing with trust,
and other elements that two
characters try to work out in a
story which make your fiction a more
exciting read. Of course, there are
all kinds of stories - one's that
are almost unimaginable can be given
more realism with a few honest
thoughts - when you meet someone in
and elevator and immediately hit it
off and act on it right there and
then - these kind of fantasies are
fun to read but need to have enough
in them to seem feasible or true to
pull the reader into the elevator
with you or on top of you!
You
can also write an erotic story as a
team - with your boyfriend,
girlfriend, partner, husband, wife,
or lover. Trading sentences and
trying to turn one another on with a
creative idea or description and
trying to out do (no pun intended)
one another - competition does
create intensity and that can be
sexy. Working together and crafting
a story will no doubt turn you both
on.
In
a country built on Puritan ethics -
sexual repression and often guilt
have remained a constant standard.
Slowly these repressive thoughts are
being pushed away and people feel
more comfortable talking about sex
and in this way writing sex
stories. Additionally, with new
writer's and styles of writing
giving a personal voice to the
erotic writing genre the perception
of erotica and sexuality in general
as devious, or only the weird old
men reading it, are disappearing.
When we look back we can even laugh
now at the strict rules of society
and maybe our own prudishness or
fear of sex. This being mostly
blamed on not knowing and having to
find out on our own through
friends rather than from our parents
lets say. Education only gives
people more information so they
can make better decisions, banning
books or not talking about sex only
hurts everyone in the end.
Here is a great quote on the need
for open and honest writing:
"When topics are not spoken about,
criticized, or appreciated openly,
they stay the same; writing about
them is reduced to the habits of
shock value and predictable
titillation." Susie Bright
There has been a long history of
censorship and books being banned
due to their ideas or sexual
explicit content - and ironically
these books became even more popular
since they were banned. Through the
50's with the Beat Generation and up
through the 60's these barriers were
broken down and the stigma removed,
allowing erotica to move and become
apart of all genres of writing.
