Kleonike, Darling, I miss you. I can’t
take this separation anymore. If you love me as much as you say
you do, meet me tonight by the river. We don’t have to do
anything; I just want to hold you. Besides, isn’t your oath to me
more important than that silly one? And who knows, maybe we can
work out a truce ourselves, wouldn’t that be grand?
Your loving husband
Kleonike reread the letter several times, trying to ignore the
feelings welling up inside of her. No, she muttered to herself, he
would simply have to do without her. After all, she had taken a
sacred oath! Although, she sighed, it really would be grand if
they could reach a compromise that suited everyone.
This situation had gone on long enough. Husbands and wives missed
each other, no one was having sex, and, to top it off, no one had
voted to stop the war. She’d tried to be strong for the other
women, for her country even, but she couldn’t take it anymore. As
much as she hated the wars, she despised celibacy even more. Well
here was the chance they had been waiting for. If a man wanted to
help reach a truce, who was she to stop him? Besides, she had
sworn not to have sex with him, but surely a little hug was
allowed?
“Kleonike! Kleonike!”
Kleonike quickly tucked the letter away before calling to her
friend. “In here, Myhrrine.”
Myhrrine crashed in the room and stopped gasping for breath. “Come
on, Lysistrata wants to talk to us. She says it’s important!”
They ran to the common room. All the women clustered together,
wondering why they had been called. A few moments later,
Lysistrata stalked into the room. Her lips were pressed together
in a straight line and her eyebrows were furrowed in
consternation. She surveyed the assembly with her hands on her
hips. Behind her, the Koryphaios of women took on a similar
stance.
“Girls, do you remember that glorious day when we partook of the
wine and spoke our oath?”
A chorus of strong yeses answered her.
“And girls, do you remember why we took that oath? We took that
oath to try to regain our country. We wanted to stop the wars and
get our men back. We made a decision to sacrifice our personal
pleasures in an attempt to achieve this goal. Isn’t that right,
ladies?”
“Yes, Lysistrata!” they shouted, raising their hands in the air.
Lysistrata walked in a small circle before continuing. “Then why,
may I ask, have we had so many oath breakers?”
The room fell silent and all the women glanced at the floor,
wringing their hands and fidgeting.
“Now, I’m not going to name names, but this behavior cannot be
tolerated. We made an oath to the gods, ladies!” Her voice
softened as she took in their miserable and shamed faces. “I know
this is hard on you, it’s hard on me too. But the men are at their
breaking point. A few more days and they’ll give us whatever we
want, including an anti-war proclamation.”
Total silence filled the room.
“Look to Myhrrine for inspiration. Why just earlier today, she led
her husband to believe she would sleep with him. She drew out her
seduction, teasing him mercilessly with her body, and by the time
she finished, he was a complete wreck. And then she left him
there, throbbing penis and all to return to us.”
“She makes it sound so easy.” Myhrrine whispered to Kleonike, “I
tell you it was pure torture leaving that cock behind. Why I’ve
never seen him so erect!”
“So, how about it ladies? If Myhrrine can do it, we can all
abstain. Are we still in this together?”
The women broke into loud cheers. “Of course we can do it. We’ll
make those suckers beg,” one woman called merrily.
Kleonike felt a sharp pang of guilt but she quickly pushed it
down. Remember why you’re meeting him. You’re meeting him to speed
this truce up. It’s all for the common good.
Somehow, this pep talk lacked the conviction it had earlier. Who
did she think she was fooling? She wanted to see her husband for
one thing, and one thing only. And it wasn’t about a stupid truce
either.
After the women had gone to bed, Kleonike crept out of bed and
walked stealthily down the corridors, looking over her shoulder to
make sure no one followed her. She prayed fervently to every god
and goddess available to help her get past Lysistrata and her
guardswomen and out to her husband.
She had chosen a side door that led into the garden. From there,
she could walk to the river where her husband would be waiting.
Kleonike could feel her pulse quicken as she caught sight of the
door. How long had it been since her husband had held her in his
arms and kissed her? Too long, she mused. She could feel his touch
right now, his strong hands massaging oil into her skin and his
fingers trailing down her hot flesh, driving her mad with
pleasure. Her cheeks burned as she felt herself start to dampen.
“And where do you think you’re going?” The stern voice of the
Koryphaios of the women jolted her from her reverie. “Shouldn’t
you be asleep?”
Kleonike looked around, desperate for an excuse to give the
Koryphaios. “I was out, I mean I was just up walking for fresh
air.” She smiled brightly at the other woman, who glared in
return. Come on Kleonike, she thought frantically, think of
something! Out of the corner of her eye she caught a glimpse of a
woman trying to sneak out the window. Turning her attention back
to the Koryaphaios, she took her arm and pulled her against the
wall. “See, over there? The window at the end of the hall? ”
The Koryphaios gasped as she took in the scene. “Why that’s
Myrrhine! And she’s escaping! Did Lysistrata’s plea mean nothing
to her? Some inspiration she is!”
Kleonike smiled, victory was in her reach! Her voice took on an
air of confidentiality. “Well, I don’t want to get anyone in
trouble,” she whispered, “but I overheard her making plans this
afternoon to meet with her husband. I didn’t want to get her in
trouble so I thought I could intercept her and dissuade her.” She
assumed an innocent expression. “After all, we made an oath didn’t
we?”
The Koryphaios clucked her tongue in obvious distress and patted
Kleonike on the shoulder. “Of course dear, of course. I’m sorry
for suspecting you. How noble of you to do this. I’ll handle this,
you run off to bed.”
Kleonike shouted triumphantly inside, but kept her face impassive.
“If you are sure…?”
The older woman waved her off and started down the hall after
Myrrhine. “Stop, girl!”
Kleonike breathed a quick sigh of relief and ran to the door
before anyone else came around. Thank you Myrrhine, she thought.
She’d feel guilty for her friend tomorrow. But now, she had more
pressing matters at hand.
Her husband was waiting for her at the exact location she had
mentioned. He turned at the sound of her footsteps. “I thought you
had changed your mind.”
“Never!” She ran to him and hugged him tightly, explaining her
reason for being late. She kissed him hard on the mouth, trying to
undress him at the same time. “Luckily, I caught Myhrrine trying
to sneak out the window. I pretended I was coming to stop her.”
Her husband chuckled and playfully spanked her behind. “When did
my wife become so naughty?”
She pretended to look indignant. “I guess it happened when my
husband convinced me to break my sacred oath to satisfy his carnal
lusts.” She stalked away and stood by the river, waiting for his
next move
He didn’t disappoint her. “Oh Kleonike, you know how much I need
you.” He kissed her neck, bringing his hands forward to cup her
breasts. “Oh don’t be mad at me. Not now. Not when we have so
little time together.” He slid his hand down her belly until her
reached her clitoris. “Please forgive me,” he whispered as he
rubbed her.
She jumped out of his reach. “You said a hug!”
He moved forward and replaced his hands. “I lied.”
“And the truce? Did you lie about that too?”
“Us now. Truce later.”
Any protests flew out of her mind as she felt the first spasms of
pleasure shoot through her body. She shoved her hands over her
mouth to stifle her moans. “I’ve wanted you so bad,” she
whispered. “I was going crazy in there with those women! And no
do-it-yourself kit! The gods only know how much I’ve needed you!”
She looked into her husband’s eyes, eyes that mirrored her own
desire and need. “Come,” she ordered, raising her hands up.
He needed no further invitation. He lay her carefully on the
ground and knelt over her, drawing her legs onto his shoulders and
entered her, moving gently at first then speeding up as she
encouraged him. Kleonike arched her back and balled her hands at
her sides as she came, shouting her pleasure to the air. Her
husband flipped her over and entered her again from behind,
pumping harder as his own orgasm overtook him. Gasping for air,
the couple cuddled together, listening to the sounds of the river.
Kleonike ran her fingers over his chest. “I should be going.
Myhrrine will be upset and I don’t want anyone to get suspicious.
Although they are definitely gonna be suspicious when you’re the
only one walking around without an erection,” she laughed
Her husband rose and helped her dress. “I’ll just say I gave
myself a hand.” He grinned as she groaned at his joke. “But
seriously, how much longer will you all continue to hold out? We
can’t take much more of this.”
“Well darling it’s simple. We’ll be back in your beds the second
you vote to stop the war.”
He eyed her warily. “And if we don’t?”
She tilted her head as if to say, well then kiss this goodbye.
He sighed. “The second we vote?”
Kleonike smiled. “The very second.”
“We vote tomorrow morning. You better be in bed when I get home.”
She kissed him lightly on the nose. “How shall I dress, dear
husband?”
A wicked grin appeared on his face. “Dress? No clothes. I want you
in bed naked. You see love; it’s the price you pay when you break
your oath to me!” |
